Kayi Cheung (traditional Chinese : 張嘉兒), born on 18 November 1983 in Hong Kong, is Miss Hong Kong 2007.

She spent many years in Vancouver, Canada. She has a bachelor degree in Nutritional Sciences from the University of British Colombia.

Her Bio ;- 5′ 4.5″ 108 lbs; Measurements: 33″ – 24″– 33½”;

Hobbies and sporting interests are: snowboarding, traveling, hiking, swimming, volleyball, playing the piano, and trying out different restaurants.

When she wants to relax she listens to classical music or Christmas songs, she also enjoys R’n’B, Hip-hop and something she can dance to.

Her personal motto is “Challenges make life interesting, overcoming them makes life meaningful. Enjoy life and believe in yourself”.

She competed in Sanya,China for the Miss World 2007 pageant. In the pageant she made history as she became the first Miss Hong Kong to win the Beauty With A Purpose award. She is the first Miss Hong Kong to make the top 16 since Pauline Yeung did in 1987.

The Miss Hong Kong 2007 was not without controversies.. It was touted as the worst in 20 years in Hong Kong’s history .She was a black horse in the competition but she got the judges votes even though many Hong Kong online citizens think she is the worst Miss Hong Kong.

It is said that she won her title by virtue of average and steady scores,she was not outstanding in any single round in the final competition.It does not matter . What matters is her score is the highest in this competition.

Grace Wong from the United States was placed second, and was “Miss Photogenic” and “Miss International Goodwill”. Nineteen-year- old Loretta Chow came in third.

It looks like the other two were more beautiful than her but she did better all round in all those stages.Her performance were better on the character and personality stage and that makes her a champion.

Many were critical of her beauty. She was not the kind of beauty which they envisioned as a Miss Hong Kong. Her face looks plain and average but those judges see what others cannot see. She has got inner beauty and a beautiful soul.

She was harshly criticized by many but she handled it coolly.

Kayi said, “People have a different perspective on beauty. There will always be supporters versus dissenters towards various participants in a beauty pageant. The winner is selected by the judges. It is most important that I am the judges’ winner.”

The Hong Kong judges were vindicated and people need to realize that beauty is not just a pretty face . I guess , many will have to eat humble pie.

Congratulations to her for wining the Beauty With A Purpose award. You earned it .You have triumphed in the world and international stage.
